New Moon in Gemini, 2025

Hi friends,

This letter is late! Yesterday at 8pm pacific time, we had a new moon in the sign of Gemini.

But I learned something new about moon cycles this weekend, so let’s get even more specific. Please take a moment to check your chart and see if you have any placements within a couple degrees of 6 Gemini. (As always, if you need help, please ask me.)

Before I can even start to talk about what’s going on the skies right now, I have to share with you about my weekend. This past weekend was NORWAC, the Northwest Astrological Conference, and, thanks to a lot of support from you, I was there.

I can’t get over it. I was there. I spent three full days surrounded by other astrologers. I met so many sweet people who speak this language with me. My heart feels so full and so inspired.

I saw one of my favorite authors, Demetra George, speak twice and even managed to thank her without getting too awkward about it. If I’ve talked to you about what I’m reading for the last year, I’ve told you about her Ancient Astrology books.

I had the absolute delight to chat with Colin Bedell (@queercosmos on instagram) after he gave a talk about the coming Saturn/Neptune conjunction. He immediately clocked me as mercurial all the way through and then asked where I was sitting for lunch.

On Friday night I found myself at 11pm in a parking lot in Tukwila WA, waving my arms around with Gemini Brett as he taught a handful of us how to locate the ecliptic in the sky. That man can tell you where the ascendant and midheaven is at any moment, and I’m not saying he can tell you what sign it’s in, he literally got it down to the degree.

Sunday afternoon, I sat on the lawn of the hotel and pulled tarot cards and giggled with half a dozen gorgeous astrologers for an hour before dinner. I just put up a piece of art above my desk that was gifted to me by an absolute ray of sunshine named Chelsea, who you can find on instagram @noblelionprints. Yesterday a new friend Bren (@brenbigs) hopped on the light rail to come join us at the house for our memorial day hangs. And I’m now in a discord server with a dozen other Seattle-area astrologers, so I’m looking forward to creating a new community connection with them.

All of this happened because six months ago I asked for your support in buying my ticket, and so many of y’all showed up. You sent me to NORWAC, and it was such an impactful experience that I don’t even know where to start in saying thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.

Alright. Let’s talk about this new moon! Did you look at your chart yet? Got anything at 6 degrees of Gemini?

What I learned about moon cycles this weekend is that there is a cycle of lunations that lasts much longer than a one-month period. So for example, yesterday we had our new moon in Gemini at 6 degrees. Nine months from now, we will have a first quarter moon in Gemini at 6 degrees. And nine months from then, we will have a full moon right around this same place. So the wishes we make now at this new moon, if we want, can be seeds that grow for a year and a half before blooming, and can take another year and a half after that to resolve, teach us our lessons, and transmute into our next venture.

The reason I want you to look at your chart is that, if you have placements near this new moon, this lunation cycle is going to tug at you more. The image that comes up for me here as I try to describe it is waves at the beach. You’re in the water, and a wave is coming toward you, and you can make a choice. Get knocked over, duck underneath it, jump through it, or turn around and do a little body surfing. Regardless of what you do, the wave will move you. You have no choice about that. But you still have power over how it will move you. That’s all we are ever doing with transit work. That’s all we are doing here with our moon wishes. We are exercising our power over the ways we are moved. So let’s see if we can surf this moon into a place we really want to be.

This new moon brought us a lot of transformational energy. Not necessarily in an emotionally heavy way though; this transformation is focused on the social structures we are building. That energy is going to get processed in a highly social context, and then immediately we will feel like action can be taken. There’s something here to be done in a way that is visible, that uplifts our identities as individuals. So as you make your moon wish today, consider: what has been asking you for change? And how you can take action about that change in a way that is authentic and heart-centered?

As always, these prompts are written by rising sign. If you don’t know your rising sign and you would like help finding it, ask me :)

  • Aries - The gatherings you create, the places you belong, and the friendships you nurture are undergoing a slow but irresistible transformation. Today, that energy is being pulled into a space of artistic and romantic expression. How can this moon help you understand what is being asked of you? Spend some time with your siblings and your closest friends. Talk to them about what you want to bring into this world. They will have insight for you.

  • Taurus - The way that world receives you is feeling heavy on your mind these days. How can that effect the ways that you feel fed? Are you feeling secure right now? Ask the moon to help you take action at home to help you create more security. And I hate to ask, but is there something you need to say to your dad?

  • Gemini - This is your new moon. This is your seed to plant—in your body, and in your vision. What is asking you for change? For expansion? What are you wishing you knew? Ask the moon to guide you to yourself, and then turn to your closest confidants and tell them who you are.

  • Cancer - Someone is turning a mountain into a mole hill and they’re handing it over to you today. You might not see it directly, but it’ll show up in how you feel supported. Ask the moon to illuminate for you, and try not to let yourself feel too isolated. Remember when you are feeling alone that you can turn to the people you care for, and they will care for you too.

  • Leo - It’s time to make a resolution to invest in community. Your relationships have begun a long-term move towards transformation, and today you have insights into how you want those changes to come into reality. Let this energy show up in you, let it flow through you, and make moves today that other people can see.

  • Virgo - Today is the day to tell the universe what you are doing for the next three years. You’ve begun a slow transformation in the work that you do, but now it kicks off in a whole new way. What opportunities can you take hold of? And how do these opportunities ask you to stand in your own shadow with bravery?

  • Libra - You will learn something today. It’s so small you might miss it if you aren’t looking, but it’s a seed. Plant this seed in a place where you can water it with your creativity, and ask the moon to give you the audacity to make moves in your larger social circles. Make those moves only in ways that let you stand in your authenticity.

  • Scorpio - Today you are handed a gift of some kind. Is it an opportunity, or is it someone else’s feelings? Ask the moon to make this gift something that will help you as you slowly begin the process of changing your relationship to your home and your family. You have energy to put out into the world right now—whatever you do, make sure it represents your truest self.

  • Sagittarius - It’s time to ask the moon for guidance in the way you relate. Your relationships with the people who are closest to you need some tending, as they are on their way into a time of serious change and growth, or, if you’re not careful or just unlucky, they’re on their way out. But it’s okay either way, because in this moment you also have an opportunity to take some action regarding where you’re going and why. If we know anything about you, Sagittarius, we know that who you’re with and where you’re going are always the two most important questions, even if the answers are constantly changing. Just allow me to remind you that this can always come from your authentic self.

  • Capricorn - I know you struggle with Gemini, Capricorn, but this moon should be a good moment for you anyway. You’re being offered a new opportunity in the work that you do, and this relates to a slow but irresistible change in the ways that you are supported. Make moves about your inheritance today.

  • Aquarius - What are you needing to express right now? Ask the moon to offer you an opportunity to get your feelings out, either to a romantic partner or into a piece of art. Ideally, both, and in the form of an ongoing practice instead of a one-off event. You are in a time of major changes, and you’re going to be here for a while. Lean in to these practices and people that nurture you, and this time can be much more beneficial.

  • Pisces - First of all, congratulations on surviving the last two years, two months, and seventeen days. You’ve learned some lessons about who you are, and this time of being seen as (and feeling) more serious has now passed. Today, ask the moon to give you something beautiful to hang in your home to remind you of how many sweet friends you have around you. You are in a time where you might feel isolated, and you deserve the reminder that you aren’t alone. You have energy today to do something nice for your body. Go do that.

A question I’ve been asked a few times is about why I write these according to rising sign instead of sun sign. So, if you’re wondering, I write this way because I find this to be a more precise way to talk about the trends that effect many of us at once. Our rising sign indicates what sign correlates to what house in our personal charts, so if we share a rising sign, we share a particular experience with any given transit in a way that we won’t necessarily share with other people who have our same sun sign.

After my experience this weekend, I find myself dreaming about creating community around astrology in Seattle. Something is brewing there for me, and I’m curious how many of you would be interested in participating in events centered around learning astrology and simply spending time with people who feel similarly. Does that interest you? More updates to follow :)

Sending you all so much love,

Until next time,

Alanna
